Cookie Policy
What GyaanBato CIC stores in your browser, why, and how to remove it.
This site uses a small number of cookies and similar browser storage. It carries no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking, and nothing listed here is used to build a profile of you or sold to anyone.
Cookies we set
| Name | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
gb_unlock_<report> |
Set after you pay for a report, so the site recognises that you own it and keeps it unlocked. It holds a signed token, not your name, email or payment details. Without it a paid report would re-lock the moment you left the page. | 365 days |
wordpress_*, wp-settings-* |
WordPress's own sign-in cookies. Set only if you create an account and log in — they keep you signed in and remember your admin screen preferences. | Session to 1 year |
Both are strictly necessary: they exist to deliver something you asked for — access to a report you paid for, or a login you started. They are not used for analytics or marketing.
Things stored in your browser, not as cookies
Some preferences are kept in your browser's local storage instead of a cookie. The difference matters: local storage is never transmitted to our servers. It stays on the device you are reading on, and we cannot see it.
| Key | What it remembers |
|---|---|
gb_currency | The currency you chose in the header, so prices stay in it as you browse. |
gb_pwa_dismissed | That you closed the "install this site as an app" prompt, so it stops reappearing. |
gb_debates | Which debates you have voted in, so the page does not ask twice. |
gyaanbato_donors | Donor wall entries saved on your own device. |
gb_user | A local profile, if you created one on this device. |
Payments
Payments are taken on Stripe's own checkout pages, not on this site. When you are sent there, Stripe sets its own cookies under its own policy — necessary ones for the payment to work and for fraud prevention. Your card details never reach GyaanBato CIC's servers, which is deliberate: we cannot lose what we never hold.
Turning them off
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and clear site data, usually under Settings → Privacy. You can do that at any time and nothing here will stop you.
One consequence worth knowing: clearing the unlock cookie makes a paid report look locked again on that device. If you bought it while signed in to an account, signing back in restores access. If you bought it as a guest, the receipt email is the record of purchase — keep it, or email us and we will restore access.
Changes to this policy
If we add analytics, embedded video or anything else that stores data in your browser, this page will be updated to say so before it goes live.
